The Big Island is one of the few places in the U.S.A. where you can still find a little special cove all to yourself such as this secluded state beach within a half-hour drive from your condo.
|
| There are many beaches in the Kona area, including Hapuna - rated the top beach in the world many years running.

The famous Magic Sands (a.k.a. Disappearing Sands) Beach is located a few minutes away along Alii drive. |
Snorkeling for all levels
Either bring your equipment or walk just across our side street, to Snorkel Bob's Kona where you can rent masks, fins, snorkels and more!

Kahaluu Beach is one of the best and definitely the easiest places to snorkel on the island. Located 7 minutes drive south on Alii Drive near Keaheau. This beach area has a protected reef. We taught our children to snorkel here when they were toddlers yet we never tired of the Sea Turtles, reef, coral and fish ourselves. Kahaluu features calm waters and most of the bay is less than 6 feet deep. Showers and rest rooms are available; there is a snack bar near the south end with lunch platters for about $6. and a place to rent umbrellas and snorkel gear! There is a large pavilion available to picnic or to grill.

| Kealakekua Bay Historical Park "the pathway of the gods". An underwater marine sanctuary with Dolphins and Sea Turtles. Kealakekua Bay is a sacred place to the Hawaiians. The Captain Cook Monument marks the spot where an 18th century misunderstanding with the local people led to his untimely death. | |
| Today Kealakekua Bay is the highest rated Hawaii snorkeling destination on the Big Island. This spectacular marine sanctuary offers an abundance of colorful tropical fish, a variety of beautiful coral reefs and visibility often to 100 feet. The calm, protected waters and sunny skies of Kealakekua Bay provide superior snorkeling and diving year round. There are several cruises you can opt to take to Kealakekua Bay, about 20 mins from your condo. See Fair Winds cruises in links below. | ![]() |
SCUBA DIVING
A great place to go and get diving instructions and perfect for the experienced "old salt". The Kona Coast offers the best conditions consistently and the largest variety of sites to be found in all of Hawaii. There as many dive shops and adventures for any level with equipment and advice easily available.
Check out our links below for local dive shops.
| Kilauea volcano, sometimes called "The drive-in Volcano" is just a two hour drive on the other side of the island. Once there, you can walk in a lava tube, hike across the crater, dine at the famous Volcano House, or even walk out to see the red hot lava! (during daytime OR nighttime) |
For up-to-the-minute eruption data, take a look at the Official Kilauea Website! |
| At night, you may want to drive the Saddle Road up to the Mauna Kea Observatory visitor center for the best amateur and professional stargazing in the world! | ![]() |

The Big Island's Kona Cost attracts golfers from all over the world. In addition to world-class links carved into the lava fields of Kohala and Waikoloa, you'll find well-kept greens farther down the coast in Kailua-Kona and Keauhou. |
Pu'uhonua O Honaunau (Place of Refuge), 18 miles south of Kona on Highway 11 Take turn off of Highway 160 to Place of Refuge. For hundreds of years, this area was considered a 'safe zone' for anyone committing taboos if they could reach it. Great snorkeling and scuba diving. |

| WHALE AND WILD DOLPHIN WATCHING Humpback whale sightings are common in Hawaii from December through May each year. About 60 percent of the North Pacific humpback whale population migrates to Hawaiian waters where they mate, give birth to and nurse their young. The Big Island is also home year round to a selection of Sperm whales, Pilot whales, Pygmy Killer whales, the Melon Headed whales and the rare beaked whales. These are found further off shore and can be often seen on one of the famous Kona coast fishing charters that ply the deep waters off the Big Island. You will have many choices of cruises to take to see these wonderful creatures, we have brochures in the condo and some links here available to you. |

Hawaii has many Christian churches as well as sacred heaus from pre-European times. Hawaii Historic St. Peter's Church is located outside the entrance to Kahaluu Beach park. It is a very quaint beautiful church right on the rocks by the ocean. |
