Dean Cornwell, famous mural illusrator discussed the composition of this painting before Mr. Andres completed it. He suggested that she be in the moonlight, and by positioning the moon behind her, the composition would be much more dramatic. She is out in the open, free to do what she pleases. He is attached to the building and reinforced by the column, as he is committed to the Navy.
